3 way traffic lights also ensure that access in and out of our road end is maintained. At worst, expect a couple of minutes waiting for the green light. And if you want to park to head up to Coire Beith, best bet is probably the old NTS Visitor Centre car park, just further down the A82 on the rigtht in this picture. There's a connecting footpath back up to the bridge works and a path diversion in place to get you over the A82 and onto the hill. | ![]() |
14th May Whichever route you choose to climb Meall Mor its going turn into a bit of a slog. However, heading up the old argo track behind the National Trust Visitor Centre wasn't too bad. Once near the col, a fire break will get you to the open moor, and from there its not too far to the top. | |
| And what a view. Its got to be one of the best 360 degree panoramas in the Highlands. The ground falls away beneath your feet to give a view straight up the glen. The incredible hulk (!?) of the Bidean range is directly opposite. Beyond the Pap are the Mamores, with Ben Nevis poking above the ridges just beyond. Turn around and you'll catch the setting sun over Loch Leven and Garbh Bheinn of Ardgour. And a quick run back down the track and home for a shower and a cold beer! Stunning! | ![]() |
| 13th May - Get your top off! Bet that got your attention! Among a spectacular line-up of vintage cars, oily rags, leather jackets and blokes called Roger that popped in for a coffee last week during the Celtic Malts Reliability Trial & Classic Car Tour were the Austin Healey Mk ll Sprite, Lancia Zagato 3C, R.R. Silver Shadow & Porsche 911 to name but a few. For further details of HERO - The Historic Endurance Rallying Organisation | ![]() |
| Pork and Lamb on the menu? The power of advertising eh? Within a few weeks of our virtues being exposed in the luxuriously glossy “Spending It” magazine our car park resembled that of Manchester United FC on training day. Several top of the range Porsches, Jaguars & Lamborghinis graced the Clachaig last weekend as the Scottish leg of the “Scumball Swally” – loosely based on the Gumball Rally – took a break from driving and enjoyed some our renowned hospitality. See you again next year lads, hic? | ![]() |
2nd May Back in June last year we played host to a film crew for the day as they filmed a scene for the new movie. Want to see it? We've even made it to the trailer! See it on the IMDB. Ok, its a short appearance. Well, very short. But we're there, at around 50 secs in to the clip. | ![]() |
21st April Having just recently got back from 2 weeks in the apartment in Argentière we were a bit skied out and so instead opted for the beach at Invercaimbe, just beyond Arisaig. A cracking day, if a little chilly. 23 kids running over the beach till the setting sun as Johnny celebrated his 6th birthday in some style! | ![]() |
17th April Once again, many thanks for the recognition from all the hard working staff at Clachaig. Its great to know that the hard work doesn't go without some appreciation. Alan Hinkes (he of the first blog entry back in January 2006!) looks pretty pleased with the award but not sure about Simon Yates. Maybe he's just nicked Simon's pint?! | ![]() |
| 16th April 2008 Here's another magazine with some nice recognition for Clachaig. Eat Out magazine - the place for out of home dining, has recently published a list of their Top 100 Pubs. Clachaig comes in at number 22 on the list. More about the selection process and the entire list of 100 pubs can be found on the Eat Out web site. We're always extremely chuffed to receive both recognition and awards as its recognition for a huge amount of behind the scenes hard work that isn't always appreciated. Of special note in the article is our Grozet Boar Bangers. Well on its way to becoming a Clachaig specialty, this dish of wild boar sausages served in a Yorkshire pud with the not-so-secret ingredient of William's Bros. very own Scottish gooseberry & wheat ale. Check out more from our menu here. | ![]() |
10th April 2008 Okay, so we don't play polo either and I'm still not sure who Martyn Lewis actually is but we're still chuffed that we're yet again being mentioned in print and are a favourite haunt for another customer. | ![]() |
