Winter Mountain Safety Lecture
Human Factors in Decision Making
Nearly every accident in the mountains is the result of a whole sequence of decisions, not just one thing that went wrong. Many of these decisions are influenced by human factors. If we could make decisions without being biased by human factors we would all be much safer!
In this informative and interactive presentation Mike will explain the human factors that can cause us to make poor decisions and introduce a system we can use to avoid these traps.
Mike Pescod, IFMGA Mountain Guide, has been running Abacus Mountain Guides from Fort William for 17 years and has been leading people in mountains for 25 years.
About the Series
Now in the 32nd year, the Clachaig Winter Mountain Safety Lecture series is the longest running safety iniative of its kind. Designed to be a last port of call before setting off into the winter hills, each lecture will look at key safety considerations which may be a timely reminder when planning your outing for the next day. Read more about the lecture series…
Clachaig’s Winter Mountain Safety Lectures are brought to you with the kind support of Mammut UK. Local retailer Nevisport will be on hand with some Mammut products and hopefully be offering some great deals to everyone attending a lecture. Please give them your support so that the lecture series can continue to be provided free at the point of delivery.
Lectures start at approx 8pm in the Boots Bar. If everyone arrives in plenty of time, and gets their food sorted and beer ordered, then there’s more chance that the lecture will start at 8pm! There is NO CHARGE for entry.
